Short Term 12 (2013)
I really enjoyed this one. I thought I wouldn’t be as interested as I was, or, that it would be kind of white savior-y a but it wasn’t. It was really triggering but it was worth it (I don’t think I’ve ever cried like that over a movie in years since Sunny.) If you’re going to watch it and you’re sensitive to suicide, cutting, and sexual abuse I’d say be careful. I was afraid that things would end up on a fucked up note but that’s never the tone of the movie. Bad things happen, but endings don’t have to be bad just because. I mean that’s not always the case obviously but there’s a nice tone of hope throughout the movie even though pretty much everyone in the film has struggled or doesn’t know how to cope correctly with their surroundings. It was also pretty funny in a dark way. Not a huge fan of Brie Larson (as in, I don’t know much about her) but she did a good job and so did all the supporting actors. It was nice for what it was.
So I recommend it.
